Summit7 in the News

Habitat for Humanity - Campus Chapters and Clubs
Student in the Spotlight - Spring 2008

Evan climbs Mt. Kosciuszko Seventeen year old Evan Jacobsen is doing his part to change the world. In 2005 Evan and his father, Don Jacobsen, started a non-profit organization, Summit 7, to raise money for housing projects around the world. The Jacobsen's goal is two-fold: to provide housing to less fortunate people and climb the seven tallest summits in the world, including famous Mt. Everest. So far, Evan and his father have climbed four of the seven: Mt. Kilimajaro in Tanzania, Mt. Elbrus in Russia, Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia, and most recently Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina.

After a visit to poverty-stricken Russia at age 14, Evan's mission was clear: he "had to leave something behind...had to give something back". Seeing people living in shacks, lacking secure shelter, he came up with the idea to use what he loves-mountain climbing- to help others get what he has- decent shelter.

As a student at San Clemente High School, Evan is anxious to get involved with his local community. As the Habitat for Humanity of Orange County build in San Juan Capistrano build begins this summer, he is already brainstorming about how to get involved.
